Making the season brighter, one small gift at a time.
FLORIDA TODAY established the Reaching Out Holiday Fund to make the season a little brighter for underserved children in our community. Gift giving is often sacrificed due to financial strain. Our program is a simple gesture to bring a smile and celebrate the spirit of the season.
In 2013, the Reaching Out Holiday Fund board of directors expanded the program by partnering with Aging Matters to help fund the purchase of gifts for local seniors in need.
With money donated to the fund by individuals, groups and corporations, FLORIDA TODAY purchases and distributes new toys and books to thousands of Brevard County children, age newborn to 15 years old. Those toys and books will be distributed countywide to the parents or guardians who might not be able to provide a gift to their children this holiday. In addition, the Reaching Out funds will enable Aging Matters to provide small holiday gifts to local seniors living alone to help in their daily lives or offer comfort.
Donations to the Reaching Out Holiday Fund are tax-deductible and go directly to purchase new toys, books and comfort items, as overhead and costs are covered by FLORIDA TODAY and the Reaching Out partners. Every person who donates to the fund will have his or her name listed in FLORIDA TODAY and floridatoday.com, along with the many local businesses who have donated time and services to underwrite the expenses of running the program.
We hope you will join us in this annual effort to make the holidays a little brighter for some of the most vulnerable members of our community by making a donation to the Reaching Out Holiday Fund.
